Samsung Galaxy M20 and M10 launched: Specifications, Pros and Cons, vs Snapdragon 636, My honest opinion

 Some wise man once said, 'Compete with yourself' - Samsung took that seriously with their m10 and m20 millennials smartphone. These two are the best Samsung smartphone in the market but how well it competes with other company's smartphones? 

 Lets first talk about the specifications a little bit, then we will start judging 🧐. 

 The Samsung Galaxy M10 is powered by an Exynos 7870 SoC, paired with 2gb/16gb and 3gb/32gb options at Rs. 7,990 and Rs. 8,990. Both have 3,400mAh battery and a micro-usb port. And also a 13mp+5mp rear camera and 5mp back camera.

 The Samsung Galaxy M20 is powered by an Exynos 7904 SoC, paired with 3gb/32gb and 4gb/64gb options at Rs. 10,990 and Rs. 12,990. Both have a big 5,000mAh battery and a micro-usb port. And also a 13mp+8mp rear camera and 8mp back camera.

 Now setting specifications aside, did Samsung really shifted the Indian market to its favor? Was the hype really worth it?
Let's make pros and cons and find out.

 Cons
  • M10 has a 3 years old Exynos chipset, which was previously used on some j6 maybe. Why?? After some months of use, a 3-year-old chipset will be very slow and you can definitely forget about updates. 
  • Samsung's experience UI on both the devices are very bulky and eventually slow down the phone. They should have given their latest one UI.

  • M10 doesn't even have a fingerprint sensor, much like the realme 1, but I think still in 2019 realme 1 is a much better handset than m10. 
  • The gaming performance in the m20 will not be similar to snapdragon 636. I've seen many YouTubers and bloggers comparing those but Exynos 7904 is much less powerful than SD636. Probably equal to sd 626 which was previously used in Galaxy C7. 
  • Those devices are powered by a TFT screen which is lower quality than ips or AMOLED display, it is much cheaper and viewing angles are much lower and power consumption is also higher than both ips and AMOLED. When I first heard the news about M series I thought Samsung's gonna give an AMOLED as they are the gurus of mobile screen, even they made the screen of iPhone X. But TFT?! What?? 🙄 It's used in cheap laptops, why on a phone?? 
  • The camera is average, although the wide angle cam is a new thing in this price range but it's only 8mp for M20 and 5mp for M10 💩. Selfie lovers don't go for it.
  • Those xda folks out there, forget about root, custom ROMs. As Samsung doesn't release their Exynos kernels modifying these sets will not be possible. If you want to customize your phone with twrp, roms and google camera try phones with Snapdragon chipset inside.
Whatever let's see the Pros shall we,
  • M20 has a damn big 5000 mah battery which should last a full day 🎉 coupled with a 15 W charger! Fast charging in the box.🔋

  • The fingerprint sensor is fast as seen on Dhananjay Bhosale's Video.
  • The teardrop notch (infinity V) is the best implementation of notch out there. Samsung was the biggest hater of notch but for whatever reason thay included that.

  • Even though the screen is TFT, it's bright enough for outdoors. But it will drain a lot of battery too.

  • Has a dedicated micro sd slot. Means you can add 2 sim cards with up to 512gb micro sd card. (Xiaomi are you listening?)

  • Has Google Wildvine L1 DRM support which means you can stream Netflix /Amazon prime at full HD. (M20) 
  • Has camera2 API support which means you can run Google Camera mod. (M20) [Although current apks available in xda thread doesn't work, hopefully, someday someone will port them for M series] 
  • Oreo with camera2 API means there's a great chance of M20 getting Android pie update, though M10 may not get any Os update. 
  • Both phones have very fast face unlock feature. 
  • M20 has usb type-c port like redmi note 7.
So, the Samsung Galaxy M series is not something breakthrough or something flop, it's better than other Samsung phones in this price but doesn't pose any competition to Redmi or ASUS, they still give the best value for money. Samsung's entering this price point is a great thing tho, in future more phones will be released by Samsung on this price range, to compete that other companies will competitively add new phones which will definitely benefit us.
